Education is a core component of a sustainable transformation of society. Education builds the future! For us, transformative education means: learning new patterns of thought and action; questioning self-evident assumptions; making people aware of unpleasant truths; discovering new things where we do not expect them to be. Transformative education can take place anywhere. The RCE Graz-Styria was certified by the United Nations in 2007, during the Decade of Education for Sustainable Development. We are part of a global network of 175 Regional Centres of Expertise. Transformative education empowers, i.e. it enables people to criticise power structures, to stand up for democracy and to develop solidarity. This makes it clear: another world is possible!
We organise and research processes that contribute to transformative education, for example in Urban Labs and Living Labs. In addition, we set initiatives ourselves, together with actors from practice. We offer courses at the University of Graz as well as lectures and workshops on socio-ecological transformation processes and other topics ‒ for universities and schools, for companies and corporations in administration, and for civil society initiatives.
